In their first game the Essex girls quickly gelled to play some lovely hockey and soon had the Kent B string under pressure.Zoe Fillingham and Sophia Fludgate worked hard to keep the ball in the attacking circle.Rebecca Withams shone in midfield as Kent were unable to break through. On the few occasions they did Victoria Lee,Hannah King and Luccia Corry quickly swept away potential trouble.Half time came with Essex unable to convert their pressure into goals. The second half saw Essex continue to dominate and the goal came after Hannah Bloy's good run down the right wing resulted in a cross which Emily Holmes tipped in. It proved to be the winning goal and gave the girls a great start to the afternoon
14th Mar 2010Essex v Kent A
The Kent A team proved tougher oppositioin but this only resulted in the girls playing even better hockey. Their passing and movement both on and off the ball was excellent and they made it difficult for Kent to get into their stride. Emily Holmes again opened the scoring following a good passage of play,Rebecca Withams made an excellent run down the left wing from the halfway line and crossed to find Rosie Millar,Rosie's shot was saved and Emily was on hand to tap in the rebound.Kent managed to regain possession and scored an equaliser just before half time. The second half saw Essex come out more determined and take control of the game.Emily put them ahead latching on to Hannah Bloy's lovely ball through.Continued pressure kept Essex in the Kent half and the third decisive goal came from Sophia Fludgate.taking her shot well to put it wide of the keeper.Sophia was then temporarily injured as she caught a stick in the ribs and sat out the rest of the game. Hollie Dawkins and Sophie Martin held firm in midfield preventing Kent from building passages of play. It was a well deserved win.
14th Mar 2010Essex v Herts
Essex again dominated the game ,their passing and moving making it difficult for Herts to play anything other than defensive hockey.Zoe Fillingham and Hannah Bloy were every where breaking down play and building attacks.Zoe's cross set Emily up for her first goial of this match.Emily swept the ball in on her reverse, lifting it over the keeper's legs.Sophie Martin continued to impress on the right wing and the defence of Luccia Corry ,Victoris Lee,Hannah King and Ellen Corry again held firm.Jade and Georgia Gidney worked tirelessly in midfield.chadsing back to support the team.In goal Alison Aspinall kept out the Herts shots..It was Emily, again with a reverse stick shot, who scored Essex's second.Herts then managed to break through to score to make it 2-1 at half time.Essex were unlucky not to increase the scoire in the second half when Sophia Fludgate 'goal' was disallowed, the umpire judging the ball to have gone in from the back of the stick. Underterred Essex carried on with their flowing hockey ,Tamara Bailey now in goal, cutting out one attack Hertsmade. Zoe Meades was very unlucky to see her shot go inches wide of the post just before full time.
21st Mar 2010Essex v Kent A
Essex were unluckey not to come away with a win having held possession for much of the match .Essex immediately put Kent under pressure with Emily and Sophia both having shots saved.Kent were finding it difficult to impose themselves and it was against the run of play when they took the lead through a break away goal ,a quickly taken sideline hit caught the Essex on the hop and Alison in goal made a save only to see the rebound tucked away.Essex continued to presswith Rosie making several shots which went wide. Again it was a quick break that brought Kent's second goal, this time a break down the Essex left side .Undeterred ,the girls were determined to fight their way back into the game and were rewarded for their effortds when Hannah Bloy picked the ball up in midfield, made a strong run down the right flank and crossed to the waiting Sofia who duly scored. It was a well deserved goal which Essex then tried to build upon.Hannah kept causing problems with attacking runs into the circle ,but good keeping prevented goals being added. Kent increased their lead with another goal coming from a quickly taken free hit . Essex fought back again and it was the captain Rebecca who brought another goal. She made a fabulous run down the left wing ,crossed and Emily controlled the ball well to slip it past the oncoming keeper. Essex kept their attack going and Sophia and Emily both came close in the dying minutes bout the scoreline remained in Kents favour.
21st Mar 2010Essex v Kent B
Essex were determined to make amends for the previous loss and again began the game strongly,Rosie attacking from the start to earn a short corner. It took a while for the first goal to come,Victoria and Rebecca both going close from short corners. Ellie also forced saves as Essex began to settle into the pattern of play that had served them well so well several weeks ago.The first goal came from a short corner,Sophia turning in Victoria's strike. A second was added shortly after,Hannah Bloy picking up a clearance following a short corner strike, running the ball in and placing wide of the keeper. Zoe Meades and Sophie Martin battled well in midfield and kept Essex on the attack. Another short corner brought about a the third and final goal .Kent cleared the ball but only as far as Sophia who dribbled it into tjh circle and lifted it over the keeper's leg .It was a well deserved win that ensured we ended the day on a good note.
