Fixtures / Results

14th Mar 2010Essex U15 Girls 3 – 2 Suffolk U15 Girls
Conceeding two goals in the first 12 minutes was not the plan for the Essex girls at the start of this season’s East campaign; however they managed to pull things together to snatch the win.
With scrappy play in the first period, where the whole team looked a shadow of last year’s unbeaten squad, it took 18 minutes before we hit the target with Tamara Evans converting a Daisy Durden cross. The girls then began to look like they wanted to compete in a game where a penalty flick from a big Essex foot, and a sloppy open play goal left us dangerously on the back foot. Abi Ashford was called on numerous times to makes vital saves, and from nowhere Cordelia Griffith’s sprinted back from the half way line to make a superb tackle just as the Suffolk striker was about to connect for an almost certain goal. With captain Pip Wilson equalising just before half time, driving in from the right flank, her cross took a fortuitous deflection off the Suffolk defender and into the Suffolk goal.
All square at the break and Essex were at least beginning to get in their stride. Essex were still heavily reliant on keeper Ashford to keep them in the game as she made a string of fine saves in both halves of the match.
The second half was a slightly better performance and we were able to clinch the winner as the ball shot across the circle and Evans was there to bag her second.
14th Mar 2010Essex 3 – 1 Norfolk
With the midfield now firmly in place and the forwards looking to harry Norfolk’s defence it was a mystery how we were not 3 up before Norfolk scored a relatively easy goal from a straight strike at their first short corner!
At the other end however it was the woodwork, the keeper and goal line defence saves that kept Norfolk in the early stages of this game. Essex eventually levelled the score as Cordelia Griffiths ghosted down the centre of the pitch and slapped the ball into the back board from the top of the circle – totally unmarked.
Into the second half Daisy was switched to the left as Norfolk were marking her with two players, and new squad member Cassie McBennet was introduced to worry Norfolk on the forward line. Essexs’ second goal came from Durden who slapped home the ball from an Evans right flank move. Essex were still tested at the back but superb defending from Liz Went, especially a head height save on the goal line kept their tentative lead intact. Essex were able to look more convincing winners as the best move of the game from defence to attack secured the win. Liz Went slapped her 16 to Evans who found Hatti Holmes on the attacking 25. Holmes jigged inside the back and slipped a delightful ball through into the path of Georgia Marston who coolly slid the ball under the approaching keeper.

6 points out of 6 but more hard work needed if the girls want to do well this season.
28th Mar 2010Essex U15 Girls 5 – 0 Kent U15 Girls
“Up and at ‘em” the girls did not let home side Kent find their feet as Jesse David received the ball in the centre of the park and looking up spotted Laura Edwards totally free inside the oppo circle. Bang went the pass, and bang went the finish as Edwards coolly collected and slapped the ball past the startled keeper to open the scoring after just 3 minutes.
Totally dominating and good performances from new face Caroline Huxley, and Madge Muir, Essex took the points with more goals coming from Pip, Madge, and Blaise
28th Mar 2010Essex 3 – 1 Cambs
Slightly more difficult due to superb keeping from the Cambs HiPAC rep, it took a little longer for Essex to convert pressure into goals but Blaise tricked the keeper with a run along the backline and a near post finish. Pip made it 2 before half time and even after a Cambs rally from which they scored Essex had the last word with another Madge goal on the final whistle from a short corner.
25th Apr 2010Essex 4 – 2 Herts
Remembering last year’s blood bath Essex were more prepared for a physical game and went into the match hyped. Their adrenalin caused a rout in the first half and they were 3 up with Georgia getting two after good work from Maddy setting her free at the top on the circle and then Daisy gifting her in front of goal. All starting after Laura
converted to get the score ticking over. Pip was subbed before half time with a strain to the knee and missed the rest of the day, Blaise, Tamara and George then shared her duties.
Into the second half and Herts scored from a short but Essex responded with Daisy converting Blaise’s left wing run. A penalty stroke was then awarded to Herts but Abi made a fantastic save – infact she had a superb game towards the end of the second half as Herts tried to claw back the deficit. With little time left they managed a second but Essex had the game wrapped up.
25th Apr 2010Essex 7 – 0 Lincs
A rather dull game, as ever, was the anticlimax to the East League season as Essex ran out 7 nil winners with a lack lustre performance.

However it means that they are now 2 seasons, or 15 games unbeaten. This season’s goal tally is 25 for and 6 against.

From the squad of 22 girls all but one was selected for the league season. This proved a little awkward to administer and next season most likely selection will be tighter.

Spend the summer wisely and prepare for next season!
