14th Mar 2010East League One v Kent and Herts
Kent 3 Essex 1

On a bright sunny day (at last ), Essex started this seasons campaign. Despite some good early Essex pressure, Kent took the lead after 6 mins from a PC. Essex then equalised with a nice goal on the rebound from Adele Sammons. Kent immediately took the lead again from free play. Essex then pressured in the second half to get the equaliser, but succumbed to a third Kent goal in the dying mins. A reasonable performance from Essex and they were unlucky not to come away with a draw

Essex 2 Herts 0

Essex soaked up some early Herts pressure and then started to take control. However Essex could not convert their pressure into goals and went into half time 0-0. Essex started the second half strongly and some lovely combination play from Adele and Kirsrty down the right created the opportunity for Olivia to sweep in Essex's first goal after 28 mins. After 38 mins, Adele swept the ball into the net on the far post form a penalty corner. This was the final score and a good result for Essex

21st Mar 2010East League Two v Cambs and Suffolk
Essex 5 Suffolk 0

Suffolk had already beaten Cambs 5-0 earlier in the day so Essex expected a tough game. This turned out to be a truly great Essex perfomance with the supporting spectators stunned by the quality of Essex play. First goal came after 13 mins. Katie put a beautiful through ball to Olivia who took on the GK one on one and calmly slotted home. Essex were showing precision passing and stunning pace and Suffolk were all over the place. Second goal came after 28 mins after Jenny put a great ball through to Charlotte to smash it home. Third goal , Millie with a lovely sweep in after 41 mins. Fourth was a goal from Deanne from a PC on 46 mins. Essex completed an awesome performance with the fifth goal on full time

Essex4 Cambs 0

Essex started this game were they left off with a goal from Maddy after 3 mins..This was followed up in the 19th min, following a great run from Chelsea, a through ball to Olivia and then Charlotte sweeping in the rebound. Third goal came from Kirsty after 21 mins tapping in on the post from a PC.. Charlotte completed a great afternoons work with the fouth goal at full time

This was a really great day's hockey from Essex and they go into the final round full of confidence

28th Mar 2010East League Three v Norfolk and Lincs
Essex 8 Norfolk 0

t was goals galore as the U17 girls continued were they left off last week. The first goal came after 1 minute with Adele beating 3 players crossing the ball and forcing an own goal. This was followed up after 9 mins with a lovely sweep in from Kirsty following another blistering run from Adele. Then it was Olivia's turn as after 11 mins as she set off on a solo run and calmly slipped the GK. Then Kirsty again with another lovely sweep. Charlotte soon got her name on the scoresheet calmly slotting home a slip pass at a PC on 17 mins. 5-0 at half time. 44 seconds into the second and Kirsty completed her hat trick with a great pick up in the D and a calm finish.. After 42 mins, Maddy got on the scoresheet with a lovely run in from the left and a good shot. Jenny swept in the final goal after 45 mins to complete a highly satisfying result.

Essex 9 Lincs 0

Somewhat surprisingly the first goal did not come until 15 mins of the match with a sweep in from Olivia. On 18 mins, Charlotte took a great goal with a reverse flick. Georgia then scored from the rebound from a PC right on half time. With the score 3 - 0 at half time, the Essex supporters were a little frustrated that the Essex pressure was not bearing the fruit to which they had become accustomed.
Simon and Shen soon sorted that out with their half time talk. The second half started with 2 goals in 2 mins, the first from Adele and straight after Olivia. Adele then got her second with a lovely dribble into the D and slip past the GK. Georgia then scored a marvellous reverse stick lob, something she has been practising so much under Shen's guidance. Millie then completed the rout with 2 goals in the dying minutes

The U17 Girls can look back at this season with great pride - 29 goals for and 3 against, 5 clean sheets and playing some fantastic hockey. The team this season was from a wide group of schools and clubs, and Simon and Shen must take great credit for gelling them into such a potent force.
